WARHAMMER

Warhammer is a tabletop wargame of fantasy battles, played by two or more people. You can play small-scale skirmish games involving 20 or 30 models a side, up to massed battles that pit armies of hundreds of models against each other. Players choose and collect armies of models that are described in separate Warhammer army books, which outline the background history for each of the individual races, along with army lists, special weapons, magical items and spells. A huge range of models is also available from Citadel Miniatures, in metal and in plastic.

The world of Warhammer is about heroes and monsters, fabulous deeds and fearsome battles, where adventures take place in a world quite unlike our own. These are realms inhabited by strange and often hostile races as well as daemons, spirits and gods. This world is deeply detailed with a vast history, the stories of which are told in the Warhammer rulebook and various army books.

There are currently 12 main races, or nations, in the Warhammer World, which means that there are 12 armies to collect, paint and use in tabletop battle games. Each of these races fights in a different way: some have especially potent magic, other enormous weapons, yet others recruit ferocious monsters. Even two armies of the same race can be quite different because there are many kinds of warriors, wizards, war machines and monsters to choose from.

Warhammer 40,000 is a game of strategy and skill set in the far distant future. The 41st millennium is a dark, forbidding place, ravaged by thousands of years of conflict. Across this gothic universe armies struggle for victory in a battle to the death.

Just like other Games Workshop tabletop war games, battles are decided by the use of long-range firearms, mighty war machines and brutal close combat. A combination of character statistics, dice rolls, skill and a little bit of luck will see who prevails and who falls.
